Always in pair for the nature of the game to find the fitting half of the shells, these storage containers are finished in black lacquer in contrast with elaborate brass fittings. This pair appears quite modern due to the minimal exterior surface decorations other than the brass hardware. The only ornamentation is a Mon symbol in Maki-e in the interior of the lid, which suggests the origin of this pair from a certain family or clan.
