Vintage 4/4 Violin / Fiddle J.A. Baader Giam Model Mittenwald Germany - $675 - (Iowa City, IA)

This is a German Violin , by the J A Baader shop , in Mittenwald. It is well made and in very good clean condition. The Button and the Back is branded Giam, it is one of the Baader builders. It dates from the 1930s or earlier. The back measures 14 & 1/8th, and is very well flamed maple. The varnish a a very nice color red / brown. There are some nicks in the varnish , and a seam crack repair under the tailpiece , it is tight and well repaired.This violin has very old strings on it, so it is hard to judge the tone, but it seems even and smooth . It could use a better set of strings, bridge and some general set up. The pegs are holding. It comes in an older case. All and all it is a fine quality instrument.
