PETERS & REED SMALL MOSS AZTEC DRAGONFLY BOWL - ARTS AND CRAFTS - MISSION STYLE - $185 - (Peoria, IL)

Up for auction is a vintage Peters and Reed small dragonfly bowl in the popular Moss Aztec pattern.  The bowl stands approximately 2 1/8” tall.  The rim measures approximately 4 1/4” (interior measurement) 5” (external measurement) across.  The foot measures approximately 3 1/2” across.  There are no maker’s marks present. The bowl is in EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS, OR DAMAGE.  There is some light scuffing on the exterior and it could probably benefit from a good cleaning. The exterior of the bowl is finished in a brown bisque glaze with green highlights.  The exterior is decorated with a repeating pattern of 3 dragonflies and double banding encircling the bowl.  The interior is finished with a glossy brown glaze.   This small art pottery bowl has been identified as being made by Peters & Reed with the Moss Aztec pattern, designed by Frank Ferrell and introduced in 1912.  Peters & Reed did not mark their pottery until changing their name to The Zane Pottery Company in 1921 which explains why there are no maker’s marks on the underside.
