INFORMATION: During World War II, copper was needed to make shell casings for bullets. There was a shortage of copper during the critical war year 1943. We wanted to conserve copper for the war effort. So, the government minted pennies in steel-coated zinc. The Treasury Department resorted to these zinc coated steel cents. They only did this for one year, because the public complained about the new pennies, they were easily confused with dimes in change. A handful of 1943 cents were struck on leftover copper blanks; These are very valuable. Two recently sold for more than $100,000 each. So, if you have one of these...Good For You!
