Victorian Purple Faille and Silk Damask Reproduction 1887 Bustle Dress Size 12 - $375 - (Glenshaw, PA)
This is a reproduction 1887 walking dress in purple cotton faille with white silk brocade inserts, trimmed with purple and black beaded appliques. It is a two piece dress - bodice and skirt, and a matching hat. I made this dress many years ago and it had over 100 individual pieces when I cut it out. The skirt is sewn to an interlining - the white silk brocade insert and all the pleats are sewn to the interlining. The inset is ruched at the waistline and then is sewn into pleats. The skirt fastens at the side and the back has numerous wide pleats which create the bustle effect. The skirt should be worn over a lobster tail bustle (NOT included). The bodice appears to be a jacket, vest, and blouse, but is in face one piece. The jacket is from the purple faille while the vest is white silk brocade, and the blouse inset is China silk. The neckline is trimmed with black beaded lace to match the appliques. The bodices closes under the left jacket lapel - there is a placket with hidden bone buttons. The lining is cotton muslin. The hat is made from the same purple faille fabric and is trimmed with a matching applique and an antique purple ostrich feather. I was a size 12 when I made this. Here are the actual measurements: Neck Circumference: 15"Sleeve Length (from shoulder) 23 1/2"Back Length, neck to waist 17 1/2"Bust 38"Waist 31"Back Width (between shoulders) 18 1/2"Skirt Length (center front) 41"
