collectors: excellent early 70's Gibson J-50 DELUXE acoustic guitar, Gibsoncase - $2,400 - (Wichita, KS)
This is a great sounding Gibson J-50 Deluxe guitar, handmade by the Gibson craftsmen in Kalamazoo nearly fifth years ago, with solid spruce top, double-x bracing, mahogany back, sides, and neck. Strong, full-sounding bottom (mahogany body?). Sparkling harmonics clearly and easily chime better than most of my other guitars. Elixir strings. The Deluxe model was the top-of-the-line Gibson dreadnought at the time. Orange and white Gibson label inside: "Gibson J-50 Deluxe" with "Guarantee ... " and "Kalamazoo, Michigan." (See photo.) Serial number on back of the head stock, A8****8, stamped with "Made in USA." (1970-1973.) Guitar in excellent condition for its vintage. One of the better examples of a J-50 Deluxe still available from this era of guitar making. This guitar is a virgin - nobody has cut a chunk of wood out of it to install a pickup. Neck, head stock, and body appear fine with no evidence of repairs or cracks. Several scratches on top and body. None very deep. (See photos.) No problems with frets. Medium action neither too low nor too high. Original "marble" binding appears to have caramelized. Original tuners work well, accurate, no problems. Hard case in great condition for age, no major dings or scuffs, latches and hinges work fine, some dust on outside, case fits guitar perfectly, has original Gibson logo. (See photo.) I bought this guitar as a collector and have owned it for over twenty years. Played it almost never. (I am partial to Collings.) I got this Gibson out to sell, played it, and fell in love with it all over again. I will be very sorry to part with it but need to thin my collection for some Christmas money and for medical bills. I'm happy to answer any questions about this vintage masterpiece by Gibson of Kalamazoo. This would be a great Christmas gift for someone who appreciates owning a fine acoustic guitar older than they are. Guitar is also for sale locally. It may become unavailable, so I reserve the right to cancel auction at any time
