1950's Jackson Guldan Double Tenor Guitar - Chicago Tuning - 24" Scale - $750 - (Loris, SC)

Jackson Guldan was a US company out of Columbus, Ohio that made a whole lot of violins and some well constructed parlor sized guitars that had a unique neck setup - the angle can be adjusted anytime by turning a small inset screw at the neckjoint. With that easily adjustable neck, a 24'" scale and trapeze tailpiece it makes it a good choice for a octave mandolin, Irish bouzouki - or double tenor conversion. -- Here I went with a double tenor setup tuned in Chicago style - DGBE. I've put on new Grover style tuners - a new tailpiece - new bone nut and modified the original bridge for eight strings. -- The body looks to be all maple - maple neck - the fingerboard and bridge are stained maple. Tuned to play in D-G-B-E and the string pairings are:30-30 23-23 14-14 10-10 The tuning is like a guitar with just the first 4 strings. It's currently setup with a string height of 1/8" at the 12th fret for the bass pair - 3/32" for all the rest - and it plays well there up and down the fingerboard. The acoustic quality on this little box is outstanding. It weighs less than 5 lbs, but push it hard on rhythm and it drowns out a dreadnought or a banjo - the sustain that just rings on and on at the end of a note. I've posted a sample on Soundcloud under ClaytonaudioShips in a new gig bag.Length - 36"Scale - 24"Lower bout - 13"Upper bout - 9 1/2"Nut - 1 5/8"Weight - 4.5 lbs
