ANTIQUE 11 INCH BANJO POT WITH NEW WALNUT NECK BY WYATT FAWLEY - $749 - (Greensboro, PA)
Sales to the USA only due to CITES restrictions Turn of the 20th century banjo rim of maple which has held its dimension admirably. I originally bought it for the 38 matching L bracket shoes, but found it to be a completely serviceable rim. Lots of the rims of this style and vintage were made with poplar and other inferior woods, so when that many bracket shoe holes were drilled, it weakened the structure, causing it to fold forward. This rim has been under full tension for a month with absolutely no effect on the playing action or neck angle. The walnut neck is of quarter sawed stock, and quite stiff, so longevity of the neck is not a cause of concern. The green sea snail fretboard inlays, copied from a very early fairbanks banjo, are quite intricate and light up like neon in florescent light. The headstock inlay, also a fairbanks design is executed in gold lipped mother of pearl, with bold engraved detail that surpasses the original in definition. New repro no-knot tailpiece and new gotoh tuners complete the setup. This banjo would also be a nice classic banjo with nylon strings fitted. Its quite a bit louder than you probably imagine it to be. I was pleasantly surprised at its "capable" voice. Priced at less than I would charge for just the neck as I have bills to pay. I spent thanksgiving day in the hospital having suffered my 4th heart attack, so my productivity has been affected.....at least as much of that is owed to the weather. My heart is operating at 10%...and I am always cold....but I digress, I'll replace some of the crappy low light blurry pics tomorrow....when I'll also be listing a 20s Vega Little Wonder with an engraved "Regent" style gryphon neck. Its a sweet instrument, so check my listings late tomorrow afternoon for that selection. I'm happy to answer any questions that I have the answer to, so feel free to ask.
