A fresh restoration, ready for daily use, this USA made 1964 Conn stereo power amp. It uses 4 x 12V6 outputs and 2 x 12AX7 inputs. The beautiful Sylvania 12V6 black plate chrome tops test near newand are a matched quad from 8 of the same Conn black plate 12V6's. The 12AX7s are W German Telefunken smooth plate (one of the best for smooth HiFi sound) were matched on a Hickok mutual conductance tester 547A, each tube selected for plates balanced for the very best sound. I refreshed the power supply with new Japan made filter capacitors, restoring the full 370V B+ voltage.Then identified and replaced the remaining 3 electrolytics (that do dry up and don't perform properly after the many decades) with green on black Sprague Atom, some of the very best. Then all the tubes were checked and matched for a great set. Proceeded to check the cool Fender style blue coupling caps making sure they were still doing their jobs blocking the B+ from the pre-section into the output tube signal grids. Then all resistors around the 12AX7s were checked to insure correct voltages (for best sound as designed) are presented to these critical input tubes. Finally I installed and wired; a pair of gold speaker binding posts with lg holes for big cables or banana plug; a heavy duty 5 amp on/off switch; and 4 hard feet for air flow. Many hours work paid off with a clean 10W stereo tube amp, more than enough power with efficient speakers like Klipsch or others 90db+, tons of volume with the control at just the 10 o'clock position. Sound is smooth and clear as volume turned up into the "power band", around 12 o'clock and beyond, where vol increases quickly. Sound is very pleasing and uncolored, and has such a smooth presentation with the Telefunken 12AX7s that there is no listener fatigue.
