ANTIQUE JAPANESE BOY WARRIOR MOUNTED ON HORSE BOTH HAVE GLASS EYES - $150 - (Stockton, MO)
This amazing doll was no doubt made for the Children's Day Festival in Japan. Mounted on his horse, he stands 12" high. Both he and the horse are attired in handmade armor. One of the stirrups came loose while I was photographing it; an easy repair with a dab of glue. The horse is covered with some kind of fur and his tail seems to be real hair. The warrior has a sword by his side and he carries a tasseled stick in his other hand. Gorgeous tapestry and fringe adorn the war horse. Please look at all the photos. The boy's face is made of gofun (crushed oyster over carved wood). His eyes are glass and so are the horse's eyes. I am not expert, so please examine photos carefully, as they are part of the description, too.
