Adler — walking foot sewing machine - $1,550 - (Salisbury, MD)
Compared to a general walking foot machine like a Consew 206, Juki LU 563,(we have, or had them also) this is more a 'production' machine. Where an operator sewing for long periods can benefit from automated features like auto back-tacking and thread trimming. My lead-lady likes this machine because compared to the ones above, it is very predictable, smoother and faster. It is not a sledge hammer as we sometimes usedthe other machines. We have made aircraft covers for about 40 years and primarilysewed Sunbrella canvas with this machine. If you do not sew for long periods, you might not appreciate a machine you can program to back-tack at both the start and stop of a seam ...then trim (cut) the thread at the end...and, lift the needle out (or leave down) of the work. If you normally turn the hand wheel to raise the needle ...then lift the thread tension release ...then grab the snips ....these functions are automatically done for you. There is even a pneumatic air rig to lift the foot, but we never hooked it up. Here are the sorts of things we have made over the years... This machine originally was a —and can be converted back to— a twin-needle but we did not need that option. The machine came from the McDonald Douglas helicopter plantin Philadelphia. It has been maintained by a commercial machine mechanic with 20yrsof sewing factory experience: it works great. __________________ The following is a comment from a self-appointed internet expert - me. I sold a late-model Consew locally and looked at the prices here before I did.Dealers want more for the old-style 206 than this Adler. The 206 has its place but it is not on a pedestal. ___________________ If there is any way — you really should bring materials and sew on anymachine you are considering. Like cars, dealers have to sell them, butthey are not their daily drivers. If you cannot try-before-buy, go around to some other operations and ask about machines. Do not ask about 'their business', most smaller b
