This medal was struck to honor the victims of the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001. The front of the medal contains the pre-attack silhouette of New York City's skyline including the World Trade Center towers, over the American Flag. The reverse side contains the message, "Let us never forget". The ribbon also contains two silver bars which represent the twin towers. On September 11, 2001 our country was devastated by an unforeseen attack by terrorists. Over 250 canine search and rescue teams worked around the clock at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon saving the lives of many injured people as well as finding those lost in the rubble. These brave animals climbed and searched places considered too dangerous for humans. These heroes worked without the benefit of gas masks or protective clothing.On September 11, 2001 our country was devastated by an unforeseen attack by terrorists. Due to the heroism and courage of the volunteers present that day, as well as the structural soundness of the buildings, more than 45,000 lives were saved.
