Rare Antique 19th Century Style Shan Buddha Reclining Burma in Gilt Bronze - $3,500 - (High Point, NC)

You are looking at a rare 19th century Style Shan Reclining Buddha in Bronze. Shan is a state within the country of Burma/Myanmar. The state gets its name from the Shan people, one of several ethnic groups that inhabit the area. The reclining buddha is shown on a raised base with lotus relief. He is in royal attire displayed with a winged crown featuring diverse openwork (typical of the Shan style), ear plugs in the shape of flowers, as well as a detailed pectoral ornament and bangles on both arms. He holds a small fruit between the thumb and forefinger of his right hand as a symbol of fertility and ‘grasping a grain of truth’. I am not aware of the exact age of this buddha, It was displayed in an antique store that I took over the inventory. The quality and workmanship of this item is truely unique and not something I have seen before.
