18th Century German Violin w/scroll-graft, Vincenzo Panormo label, No maker mark - $3,850 - (Claremont, CA)
Available to own is a very nice condition late eighteenth century violin. A tad too much varnish over the graft to be certain of maker. The label reads " Vincenzo Trusiano Panormo fecit ", likely an attributional sales ploy by dealer to realize greater sums for transactions. We are not representing this as a Vincenzo Panormo...we are only mentioning what the label reads. It has the commensurate wear and repair of a few centuries of respectful use, nothing approaching neglect or abuse (see photos). Sound post is loose and jiggling inside the body...likely time to replace at any rate. Spent the last 60 decades here in So. Cal. where the moderate seasonal fluctuation tends to be more forgiving to fine instruments compared to other, more weather-volatile regions of the U.S.. A fine german instrument with a lot going for it. Not perfect but rarely a better candidate for a full restore and set-up. A fine instrument sufficiently respectable for a soloist and/or serious orchestra member. It comes with everything shown, including a sturdy faux croc Lifton case.
