Conn 12J BBb Tuba in Great Playing (but rough looking) Shape! - $600 - (Stuart, FL)
Up for sale is a Con 12J tuba in rough looking, but Great playing shape! This horn does show signs of repairs including dent removal, and several re-done solders. It appears as if it received a rather in depth overhaul at some point, but all the newer looking solder joints look well done and very solid! This tuba is a warrior and a survivor! It spent a portion of its life in a middle school band, and has the scars to show, particularly on the bell. The bell has had many wrinkles painstakingly smoothed out, and several splits/cracks filled and smoothed over with some impressive looking solder work. That being said, this tuba is in great playing shape! All valves have been oiled and move smooth/quick!All slides have been cleaned/greased, and can be pulled by hand! All solder joints are solid! With several having been touched up over the years. Laquor finish still looks good overall (60%+ still in tact) with several dings/dents/ scuffs and bends throughout. See pictures, the bell is now very close to its original shape, with some wear in the laqor to show for its rough past. The Conn 12J was one of the most popular models produced by the company at the time, featuring easy access front action pistons, compact tubing circuits, and a relatively large 18 in bell. The 12J was marketed as a ¾ tuba originally, but it's considerably beefier than other popular ¾ horns like the Yamaha YBB 103, and packs a great punch for its weight class! This is certainly not a pristine horn, but it's a great "workhorse" of a player and has tons of music left in it! Local pickup only! Given the damage/repairs that have been done, I'd much rather have the buyer see this horn in person. But feel free to shoot me a message for a shipping quote if you're serious about buying what some would call a "beater horn"
