Bronze ashtray, Indianapolis Motor Speedway collectible, cigar ashtray - $110 - (Davisville, WV)
Here we have a (Bastian Bros. Rochester N.Y. genuine bronze) ashtray. These were commissioned in 1947 by Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Tony Hulman Jr. to be given as gifts of appreciation to his friends, employees, and business associates. Hulman also owned the Clabber Girl Baking Powder company. It is in exceptional condition. Measuring 6.5" wide x 5" tall x 3/8" deep. Notice the cigar size troughs at each of the four corners. A perusal of the above photographs will reveal only a few faint nicks, and a rich consistent patina overall. No scratches and no damage. The Clabber Girl Special #2 racecar which is 1/16" thick is applied and stands out in high relief from the center of the ashtray. "Clabber Girl Special Terre Haute Indiana" is engraved below "Indianapolis Motor Speedway" at the top of the ashtray. A beautiful item, and very uncommon in this condition.
