RARE WILLIAM AND MARY PERIOD TAVERN OR SIDE TABLECA. 1720 DIMENSIONS 20 1/2" high x 22 1/4" x 25 3/4" DESCRIPTION Strongly grained tiger maple plank top is 1 3/4" thick. Drawer front with inscribed and chip carved hex designs. Individually cut dovetails on the drawers showing original inscription marks. Drawer bottom shows marks and texture of having been hand hewn with an adz. Well-worn runners on the drawer sides. Heavy block and turned legs. Stretchers show much foot wear, especially the lower ones. Pegged mortise and tenon construction. Original bulbous ball feet, not shortened. Probably Pennsylvania or New England origin. CONDITION Overall excellent. Stretchers show the expected footwear, especially toward the middles, less toward the ends. Some wormholes throughout. Original untouched surface, apparently never refinished. On the legs, there are several chipped areas and one minor section of dry rot (all visible in the images).
