ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR BOWIE BAYONET SEE CONFEDERATE EDGED WEAPONS BY ALBAUGH at page 165. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. This knife is the last of my bowie bayonet collection and a very interesting example as the rear ring has been ground off allowing the bayonet to be used as a bowie knife which is a more practical form. With both rings in place it is very awkward to try to use the bayonet as a knife. With the rear ring removed, the knife can be used for fighting or for camp chores.The handle is rosewood which is slightly flattened on the sides and the remaining thick brass ring is rough and crudely finished and slanted toward the rear of the knife. The round tang is undisturbed. The blade is 12 1/8 inches to the ring. There is only a very slight wobble to the ring guard. The blade is unsigned and has been attributed at various times to Potts of New Orleans, to Rees Fitzpatrick of Natchez and more recently to Cook and Bros. of New Orleans. A pretty neat old soldier.
