RARE AERO CLUB MEDAL SQUADRON LEADER CAPT. GERARD - DARING EXPLOITS! - $1,250 - (Owls Head, ME)

Rare silver Aero Club Medal awarded to early French army pilot and Squadron Leader Captain Paul Gerard. Capt. Gerard was Commandant of School at Le Crotoy before the war, Commandant of Escadrille M39 at its outbreak, and later Commandant of C17 in 1915. Much more research is possible. Included are copies of some postcards featuring Gerard, and two clippings of a daring escape from attacking Uhlans after landing near German advance troops. Medal is 5.4 cm in diameter, and hallmarked " l' ARGENT " on the edge. Free priority post within the U.S.
