1880's Hartford Silver Plate Co. Pickle Castor w/Clear Castle & Windmill Insert - $495 - (Ridgway, CO)

This elegant reminder of nicer times is ready to grace your table. It was manufactured by the Hartford Silver Plate Company, of Hartford, Connecticut. The company was in business from 1882 to 1894, when it was absorbed by Barbour Silver Company in 1893, which then became the International Silver Company in 1898. This lovely pickle castor is in the Eastlake style, with Gothic touches. The pierced panel crest is of two phoenix birds. The pickle castor has matching Eastlake style claw tongs, which hang from the frame. The castor is marked with the Hartford makers mark, and the number "738" on the underside of the frame. It has not been re-plated, and is in excellent condition. The lid is original to the castor, and fits well on the glass insert. The insert is three part mold blown clear glass, with three panels depicting castles and windmills. The insert is in mint condition. The dimensions of the frame are; 11 3/4" tall, and 4 3/4" in diameter. The insert is 4 1/2" tall, and 3 3/8" in diameter. This is a perfect addition to make to your collection!
