1904 St. Louis World's Fair Souvenir Clock Louisiana Purchase Exposition Donkey - $1,000 - (Walnut, IL)
Offering this fantastic antique wind-up clock that was purchased as a souvenir at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair (also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition). Souvenir clocks from the fair are few and far between in any model, but this is the only example I've seen with two donkeys or mules. Between the donkeys is a banner that has been engraved, "Louisiana Purchase Exposition St. Louis, MO 1904." The clock is marked "Anchor Brand Warranted" on the back. It looks like someone may have etched their initials into the underside of the base. The case is in very good condition. There is some fading to the gilt, but overall as you can see it retains a lot of its original finish and has no surface rust or corrosion. There is a little waviness at the bottom of the clock face, but there is no damage, losses or repairs to the case or donkeys. The wind-up mechanism on the back of the clock has resistance, but it doesn't run and I don't want to force it. It measures 5 3/4" tall and 3 3/4" x 2 3/4" across the base.
