Vintage J.W. Stannard tabletop 58 chime instrument with wooden stand - $265 - (Dayton, OH)

You may recognize this chime instrument from the 1980s, when you could purchase such a treasure in shopping mall kiosks. They were made by John W. Stannard, who began studying music at the age of four and built his first instrument at age six. In 1980, he founded Om Percussion, a chime company for musicians. Today the company, now known as JW Stannard, sells only wind chimes--the kind you place outdoors or near a breeze. But these chime instruments like the one offered here were, at one time, part of the overall offerings of the company. This set has a total of 58 chimes in two rows of 29 chimes. The wood appears to be teak, and the previous owner kept this in amazing condition. The chimes are aluminum alloy, and each is calibrated. The 58 chimes are 1/4" in diameter, and the wood stand is just over 11" tall by just over 22" long by 2-1/2" wide. The chimes are strung with high tensile braided cord. Weighs 3.5 lb. before packing In great vintage condition.
