This table is a rare museum find from Elanor Roosevelt'sVal-Kill factory in Hyde Park, NY. The original table was a gift in 1946 from the African Academy of Fine Art and isnow in the archives of The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, NY.Val-Kill was founded by Elanor to provide income and training for young local men. They reproduced furniture, mostly Colonial, for the local market.This oval mahogany table with elephant base, was recently found in a local Hudson River estate. the elephant has bone carved eyes The previous owner, not knowing the history of this table, hadstarted stripping the top and the base. There is an age crackon the oval top, otherwise in very good condition consistent with it's age and use.
