1917 World War One Handkerchiefs with One Star. Sent to Servicemen's Wives. RARE - $45 - (Laramie, WY)
This listing is for a rare world war one item over 100 years old. It includes two unopened envelopes and the two handkerchiefs. Each envelope contains 2 handkerchiefs exactly like the ones pictured (except cleaner. These two handkerchiefs were taken out of their envelope before i acquired them. It has been exceedingly difficult to find their exact story, so if you know anything about them I'd like to hear from you so I can improve this listing. These envolopes, each with two handkerchiefs inside, (each is white with and orange or red rectangle, and a single blue star inside that). They were meant to be sent to servicemens wives during the 1918 era of WWl when Americans were involved in the war efforts. From what i understand the USA didn't have a huge presence in this world war. The blue star meant you had a serviceman over seas (i do not know what branch though). The envelope reads "Honor Fighting Yanks, Carry Service Hanks" Copyright 1918 by Geo. Borgfeldt & Co. Then below that "This package, ready to mail, contains two Women's Handkerchiefs of superior quality, embroidered with the United States Service Flag design. One star only. Design Patented November 6, 1917. In the corner to the right it reads "3 cent stamp for United States, Philippines, Porto-Rico, Cuba, British North America. Below the stamp is an area designed to address the person this is to be sent to. One big blue star sits in the middle. This listing is for the exact item pictured.
