Grapevine Wine Tasting - Rosé - N.A. - (Berkeley, CA)

Dear Grapevine friends- Rosé. We've had requests for it, and that’s what we shall taste on Wednesday, March 13th. The last Grapevine tasting of rosé was in September of 2011. It is time to take another look at this appealing wine. But what is rosé? It is wine whose grape juices are steeped along with their skins long enough for the skins to impart pigment to the juice- any shade of pink from a blush of red to a rather deep pink. Jancis Robinson calls rosé “a dry wine refreshing enough to be drunk on a hot summer day, but which still bears some relation to red wine.” Often it is made from Grenache. It may rise to its heights in Provence, the Southern Rhone, and in Languedoc in France. Rosé from these areas in France and elsewhere can be very good wine. But Spain takes rosé seriously as well. So do winemakers in California, and they are making rosé from all kind of red wines! Find a favorite rosé and bring it along to our March tasting. 1 bottle per person.
