9th LANCER OFFICER WINDSOR FUNERAL GEORGE iV 1830 WATERCOLOUR - $1,250 - (Owls Head, ME)

Wonderful watercolour of a 9th Lancer officer at Windsor / Slough, probably for the funeral of George IV in 1830. This is a fine portrait, more than a uniform study, with the emphasis on the face and head and not uniform details. See accompanying letter from the National Army Museum in London which dates the watercolour to 1829-1830 based on the profile of Windsor Castle at that time, and the regimental history. Is there something coded going on with the gauntlet? I'm guessing this fine fellow sold out long before the regiment saw action in India in 1842. Artwork measures 17 x 12 inches, and in the frame 20 x 26 inches. Some condition faults for a watercolour of this age--a small repair at the bottom, a chip in the upper right corner, and some flecking to the trooper holding the horse--all of which do not detract. Anything else is reflection. Very bright colours, and framed in a nice Regency style frame with archival glass. Free UPS shipping within the U.S.
