Rookwood Pottery Elephant Bookends, Shape 2444D, Ivory Matte, 1931 & 1933 Pair of Asian elephant bookends, designed by William McDonald for Rookwood Pottery. The Asian elephant has a twin-domed head with an indent in the middle, and smaller ears than the African elephant. Ivory (off-white/cream) opaque matte glaze. No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. One has a very slight factory firing line in the glaze under one foot. The other has peppering in the glaze, which gives it an almost elephant skin textured appearance.Marks: Both have impressed RP flame mark with the date in Roman numerals. One is XXXI (1931), the other is XXXIII (1933). Each have the shape mark 2444D. Dimensions: Each: 5" high, 5 3/4" wide, 3 5/8" deep.Signature confirmation on delivery is included.
