Classic Staffordshire Bisque Hen On the Nest Covered Dish - England - $195 - (Limington, ME)
This listing is for a classic antique Staffordshire hen on nest covered dish. The cover measures 7.5" from the beak to the tail, and 5" wide. The lower portion measures 7" long, and 5.5" wide. Considering the age, this is in great condition. There is a small 1/4" chip along the top by an egg. Please see photos. When the top is inside the bottom basket, this is hardly noticeable. There is also wear to the glaze along the top of the nest/base but no chips or cracks. The back of the lid/hen has some minor wear. Again, please see photos. There is no maker's mark on the bottom, but there are (difficult to read) numbers "22" inside the top and "7" on the bottom of the base. This is typical of late 19th century Staffordshire. This Hen-on-the-Nest with four eggs, features a polychrome Bisque finish. It is unglazed on the outside, but the insides of the lid and nest have a clear glaze. The body has subtle feather decorations using different shades of brown and black. The nest is lightly glazed with mixed colors of gold/yellows and has a thick ribbed weave topped off with a braided finish.. The underside of the top has a shiny glaze, and shows two small holes one each on the neck section and the tail section which were used for expelling hot air and gases during the firing process. This will come carefully packed in bubble wrap and double boxed for additional protection while in transit. It will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with insurance. Shipping to US Lower 48 only. Excludes Alaska & Hawaii. Thanks for looking!!!
