Signed BUSSE Pen & Ink Architectural Drawing Listed Artist Boston + Rare Book - $300 - (Westport, CT)
We are so excited to present this authentic Fritz Busse pen and ink drawing to you! The drawing is entitled "The Sacred Cod. Boston Lamp Posts" and is an original drawing from a collection of 46 Busse paintings and drawings from the 1965 book Boston Cradle of Liberty. This book had only one printing and is rare. We will include a copy of the book with purchase of the artwork. Fritz Busse was a prominent illustrator from the 1930's - 1960's. He illustrated a series of books on major cities in the US and Europe. As well, he was known for his drawings and painting of landmarks and other architecture. He also designed the last in the series of US 4-cent stamps. His stamp featured the Lincoln Memorial. The drawing is framed and we have not examined it out of the frame. The visible area is 10" wide by 9" high. The outer dimensions of the wood and leather frame are 16.25" high by 17.25" wide. As you can see in the photo above, Busse sketched the drawing in pencil first and then went over it in ink. You can see where he changed some of the details and you can actually see where he erased a few lines and redrew them. The drawing is under glass and is in excellent condition. The frame has a few knicks and dings and this would be expected of a vintage item. The drawing is signed "Busse" at the bottom in the center. We do not know if the title of the print is under the mat or not, but as you can see from the photo of the drawing in the book, the drawing is titled in the lower left. You can also see the signature on the page in the book. This is the actual original illustration used for this book! A card from The First National Bank of Boston is affixed to the back of the frame's dust cover with the provenance of this drawing. We have included a photo of this card.
