A Mino province Sue-Seki school signed TANTO by KANENORI, Tenbun (1532-1555). Kanenori made swords during the late Muromachi period (486 years ago). It was at the peak of his work period in 1542 when Mino came under control of Oda Nobunaga, during the Sengoku jidai, "Age of Warring States." Swords were in great demand at this time and Mino blades were very popular for their sharpness and durability. Tanto's were never mass produced and were always special order to the needs of the samurai ordering the blade. This tanto is 486 years old and in full polish displays clearly all the attributes of the shoshu tradition of sword making by it's quality and beautiful hamon. Kanenori is rated as chujosaku quality and wazamono for sharpness. The tsuka has a very difficult and original string wrap with very tasteful menukis. An excellent kozuka is included with the tanto. This is a complete package that needs nothing.
