This is a carved wood JIZAI KAGI used in the hearth. In Japan, a JIZAI KAGI(cross bar) suspended above the hearth which is used to adjust the height of the pothook It is a very old and beautiful carving. SIZE(about) 12 inches long Estimated around mid to late 1800’s Probably made with hemp rope and cast hardware.
