LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY (ITALY) VINTAGE FINELY CARVED WALNUT FRANCISCAN FRIAR, W/ROBE ON PLINTH BLOCK BASE(Circa 1885-1915)Italian antique hand carved wooden figuresDIMENSIONS:13 ½" Height x 3 ¼" Width x 1½" Depth DESCRIPTION:Offered is this hand carved, highly detailed late 19th-early 20th century Italian walnut standing figure of a robed Franciscan friar, with beard and a cross emblazoned on the lapel of his cape. The walnut is medium in tone and doesn't suffer from any splits, fractures, significant flea-bites or chipping to any of its edges. The figure hasn't been touched, rinsed, dusted or oiled. It remains in 'as-found' vintage condition. There aren't any noticeable abrasions, dings or dents to its surface, less perhaps a slight scuff on the figure's face. The figure stands firmly on a flat surface and is structurally sound. The walnut is infused with amber, honey and milk chocolate tones and the wood naturally fluctuates in color. The carving is exquisite and quite detailed. The robe is stylized somewhat, making the figure appear abstracted. The carving of the face is really nice, with naturalistic detail and smooth, rubbed, soft surfaces. From Italy with love. Beautiful. CONDITION:Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
