Niagara SPAR necklace and earrings - pink - $45 - (Middleburgh, NY)

This is a 26" long pink necklace and matching earrings made of Niagara Spar Purchased at Niagara Falls in the 1950s. was also called petrified mist. Apparently now very rare. The stones of the necklace increase in size from the back of the neck to the main part on the chest. The earrings are a cluster of 3 stones. Can be put on ear wires or a clip backing. Niagara Span is a type of gypsum that was mined at the base of the Horseshoe Falls in the mid 1800s into the 1900s but the supply is gone and there is none left. All kinds of jewelry was fashioned from this calcite stone which was easy to carve. All from our personal collections, which I am now sharing with others who want them and will enjoy them.
