Original Personal Aircraft Recognition Album from WW1 Royal Flying Corps Pilot - $375 - (Peterborough, ON)

3 years ago I bought a large number of items from the estate of a gentleman whose father had been a Royal Flying Corps pilot during the First World War. Many of these items are extraordinarily rare, interesting and collectible. I'm "testing the waters" today by putting up for consideration a personal "aircraft recognition" album made by this WW1 pilot. It is charming in its simplicity and reference to Paris, where clearly this pilot had spent some of his leave! The photos are mounted on black paper and are labeled as follows: Inside Front Cover: Postcard #112 PARISPage 1: R.E.8. - BRISTOL FIGHTER -SOPWITH SNIPE - SOPWITH PUP - SOPWITH CAMELPage 2: KITE BALLOON AT QUEENS CLUB LONDON - CONOY OF SHIPS FROM GLASGOW SEPT 1917 -BAY AT TURNBERRYPage 3: HENRI FARMAN - VICKERS FIGHTER - F.E.2D -F.E.2BPage 4: DE HAVILLAND 11 - DE HAVILLAND 1V - DE HAVILLAND V - DE HAVILLAND V1Page 5: MARTINSYDE SCOUT- AVRO - NIEUPORT SCOUT - MORANE BIPLANEPage 6: BRISTOL SCOUT - B.E.2E - B.E.2C The photo on page 2 of The Bay at Turnberry, adds further evidence of authenticity. During the First World War, the base housed No. 1 School of Aerial Fighting. The school merged with No. 2 (Auxiliary) School of Air Gunnery, becoming No. 1 School of Aerial Fighting and Gunnery, renamed No. 1 Fighting School (North-West Area) on 29 May 1918. It provided pilots with three-week courses in the arts of aerial gunnery and combat. It was disbanded on 25 January 1919. Again, please note, this is not some later compilation but an authentic and personal item that was compiled by a Royal Flying Corps Pilot who clearly was detailed and passionate. The album and these additional items suggest a fascinating story, the details of which, sadly may never be known in detail. If you have any questions about the album please ask as I want the purchaser to be 100% satisfied. Please see my other Royal Flying Corps Items for sale.
