Chinese SIGNED Boxwood Carving Lotus Leaf with Cicadas Tea Scoop. RARE detail. - $75 - (Mccomb, MS)
Chinese SIGNED Boxwood Carving Lotus Leaf with Cicadas Tea Scoop. RARE detail. From my mother's estate. I do not know the age or provenance of this item. It's at least 20 years old, of that I'm sure. Exquisite, lively, finely carved detail in all-over sculpture-- rare level of life-like, naturalistic detail. This is a traditional tea scoop (also called tea spoon, chago, tea ladle), used in tea ceremonies in several cultures in Asia. Tea scoops with this type of nature design are sometimes referred to as a form of netsuke. It is signed by the artist in Japanese. Cicadas represent rebirth and immortality, and are associated with summer. MEASUREMENTS: 5-1/2" x 2-5/8" x 2" (14cm x 6.7cm x 5cm). CONDITION: In excellent condition with one tiny flaw in the very tip, it measures 2mm x 1mm. If you have any questions please e-mail me before bidding. THANKS
