Hartford Faience tile matte green knight Grueby St Louis Expo 1904 Arts & Crafts - $2,195 - (Boston, MA)

Here is a fine and rare Hartford Faience pottery tile depicting a knight. It is glazed in four matte glazed colors of green, white, tan, and rose red, and commemorates the St Louis Exposition of 1904. The company was founded by Eugene Atwood in Hartford Connecticut after he left Boston and his partnership with William Grueby. Framed in an Arts & Crafts style oak frame. The tile measures 4 1/2 inches square, and about 1/2 inch thick with high relief (framed, 9" x 9"). It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws and was never installed. The back is flat and marked with a large die-stamped mark. A nice, rare example of Arts & Crafts New England art pottery tile.
