2 Antique 1800's Granite Stone Apothecary Mortars, 7 1/2 & 9" Rims, T.M.S. Co - $75 - (Wheeling, WV)

Here are 2 granite stone apothecary mortar bowls that must have been made to nest together. Largest one has rim of 9" across top. Both have spout area to place pestle when used. Smaller one has rim of 7 1/2". Stamped in an oval design on the bottom of the largest reads: WARRANTED, T. M. S. CO., ACID PROOF. Below that indentation is another impression that reads 6 (or upside down 9) . The smaller mortar stamp reads: WARRANTED, T. M. & S., ACID PROOF. Above is what looks like an A and below what looks like a 4. These could be both the same, but different due to the strength of the impression, I'm not sure. Believe these were made by Thomas Murdock & Sons from Trenton, NJ who began business in 1872 and was later bought by American Standard in 1929. They are very heavy. Together they both weigh over 13 lbs. Found in the garage of a second generation family of pharmacists (father Deceased & son Retired) going way back. Please email if any questions.
