Boss TU-12 Chromatic Tuner (1987 MIJ Vintage) - Not Properly Functioning - $50 - (Lockport, NY)

This is a 1987 MIJ boss TU-12 chromatic tuner. It turns on but does not tune properly. I think something may be wrong with the needle. I am not sure if it is fixable. Thee condition is pretty good cosmetically but it is missing the lid from the little case it used to come with, the case also has electrical tape on it and a dadario sticker on the bottom.
