This unique antique is called an Optometer. This is an instrument for testing the refractive power of the eye. This Optometer is typical of the instruments used between 1890 - 1920. To check your eye, one would look into the lens in the eye cup and when the words "count the dots" appear on the disk you would try to count the dots below. The disk that moves forward and back on a number scale will measure the eye to determine lens power needed. On each end of the bar the words convex or concave appear. I am wondering if that determines if you are farsighted or nearsighted. Traveling eye glass salesmen were thought to use this Optometer before the phoropter was used. 100% ratingShips on Time.
