THREE (3) Sprouted TARO Mini Elephant Ears Tubers Bulbs COLOCASIA ESCULENTA - $10 - (Laurens, SC)
Taro Mini Elephant Ears(Colocasia esculenta) Hardiness: USDA zones 8-11THREE (3) Sprouted TubersI only ship sprouted taro tubers, because they're off to a better start this way (see Photo 2). Often, if you don't sprout them before planting them, they rot in the soil before the roots and shoots can form, and you end up with a mushy mess. Photo 1: Taro plants growing in a wicker basket as a centerpiece with caladiums (taro have the solid-green leaves). Photo 2: These are the tubers (bulb-like structures) -- I'll only send tubers that are already sprouted, so your plants are off to a better start. This listing is for three (3) tubers. Photo 3: Taro plant growing in a pot as a houseplant (I set it outside just to take the picture). Photo 4: Taro growing in large barrels (note that plants are taller in these larger containers than in Photos 1 and 3). Please note: This listing is for THREE (3) taro tubers - similar to - the ones shown in Photo 2 - NOT for full-grown plants as shown in the other photos. Taro plants are so versatile, and they lend a tropical look to any garden. I grow them in containers, with groupings of other tropical plants, such as caladiums; I grow them as houseplants; I grow them in pots in my water garden; and I've even grown them in hanging baskets. These plants are perennials only in USDA zones 8-11, so if you live outside this winter hardiness range, they won’t come back next year if you leave them outdoors during the winter. But you can overwinter them inside or grow them year-round in pots as houseplants (see Photo 3). Although they are in the elephant ear family, these are not the plants with giant leaves typically known as "elephant ears." In most growing zones, taro plants do not grow as large as true elephant ears -- I call them “mini elephant ears.” The plants grow from tubers (Photo 2). Plant the tubers just under the surface of rich, organic soil with the budded/sprouted part facing upward. They grow best in partial shade in mois
