Jackson, D.D. was written, according to the preface, “...as a compendium of historical facts, and the organization of the early African Baptist churches of the United States of America and its territories, Canada, the West Indies and Africa, and the modern African Baptist Church, in her activity and work; to our Sunday Schools, Baptist Young People’s Unions, and to all with the earnest hope that they may profit by this little book, though humble at best...” The booklet, which measures approximately 5 ½ x 7 inches, contains 27 numbered pages of text and is contained in gray printed wrappers. A photo of J. J. Jackson is included as a frontispiece. The date of publication is unspecified, but it appears to be earlier than the oft-referenced Third Edition of 1922 (which contains 28 numbered pages of text).
