Rek-O-Kut Recording Lathe Record Cutter R8A Tube AMPLIFIER Complete Rare - $300 - (Bovey, MN)
This listing is for one Rek-O-Kut model R8A amplifier as shown. This was the standard amplifier unit that was included in the case of many Rek-O-Kut disc recording machines of the 40's and 50's. I purchased this as a spare several years ago and have never needed it. Naturally this is vintage electronics and should be gone through by someone qualified before putting it into regular use. I never did so as I never needed to use it. I did take a moment to perform some basic testing today. It powers up, all tubes seem to be OK. Audio sent into the unit through a mic input or the radio/phono input does in fact exit the unit at the cutter terminals, amplified as expected. The VU meter responds and the controls all seem to w work smoothly, although as you may expect they all need to be cleaned, etc. The output accommodates 4, 8, 15 or 500 ohm cutters/speakers and it has a power socket on the back for the motor circuit of the cutter (or anything you might want AC voltage for). This is a heavy unit (those power transformers are beasty). All tube electronics, with a pair of 6V6 output tubes. This would also make a dandy mono amplifier for many other purposes, heck you could mount it in a cabinet with a speaker and play guitar through it! One of it's original purposes was as a PA amplifier as well (see switch on panel). As this is nearing 70 years old this is sold with NO warranty, NO promises, NO returns, and you should expect to to work on it before putting it into regular service. I might consider shipping overseas but it will be expensive to do so as the package will be heavy and large. What you see is what you get. Will be packed well to arrive intact. Paypal please.
