RCA 15" Loudspeaker 515S2 Duocone duplex 16 ohm Excellent condition with cabinet - $500 - (Greensburg, PA)
This is a rare RCA 515S2 Duo Cone Loudspeaker in excellent condition. This is a full range duplex speaker. The speaker is 15" and 16 ohms with power handling capability of 25 watts. There are no issues with the cone which is in excellent condition as is the rest of the speaker. The label of the speaker appears to flake off if rubbed probably due to oxidation of the aluminum over the last 60+ years but is stable. Speaker has what appears to be the original capacitor which could be changed at some point. I have tested the speaker and it sounds great. From my research, this appears to be a high-end speaker geared to the home audio enthusiast. You can find numerous comparisons to the more professional geared LC-1A. The sound of the 515S2 is compared favorably to the LC-1A in many instances. If you research this speaker on line you will find that it is highly regarded. I acquired this speaker from the original owner who purchased it and built the cabinet to RCA recommended specifications in the speaker literature. This speaker has been inside the cabinet since built and the speaker was always in a living room and bedroom of the house. It was driven by a Heathkit W3-AM amplifier. The cabinet is in excellent condition. The only issue is a small defect on the back left top corner (pictured). This is a very small chip that can be fixed. Otherwise the cabinet in free of issues as is the grill cloth which is period. Cabinet is quality 3/4" plywood. Dimension of the cabinet are 44 1/4" (including legs)H x 28" W x 16 3/4" D. This is the RCA recommended cabinet size (see picture below). I do not have the literature.
