Antique 1880 Lot of 6 Teaspoons Berndorf Alpacca Mark No.1 BMF Alpacca Austria - $200 - (Woodcliff Lake, NJ)
This is a super rare lot of 6 Alpacca Silver teaspoons by Berndorf Metalware in Austria. We are estimating these spoons to be from the 19th century from 1880 to 1885 based on our research. These spoons are made from Alpacca and are signed with the super rare stamp No. 1 that reads BMF ALPACCA with a bear in the middle. From our research: The earliest known Berndorf Alpacca mark No. 1 was introduced around 1880 and used until 1891. The mark No. 1 represents an oval of 3.0 x 3.6mm size bearing the lettering "BMF ALPACCA" (which means Berndorfer Metallwaaren Gabrik or Berndorf Metalware Factory) with the "M" and "F" letters being fused. Inside the oval there is a profile of a walking bear looking down. This mark is quite rare. Each of these rare teaspoons measure 5-3/4" in long x 1-3/16 wide at the spoon bowl. The total weight of all 6 teaspoons is 131.8 grams. On the back of the handle about 1-1/4 from the end is the Berndorf factory mark no. 1 as pictured. These spoons came from a large rare collection of antique flatware that was sold off at auction at a local estate sale. These spoons could use a light polishing, but, look excellent as they currently are. Please see all the listing pictures for up close views from all sides...
