Vintage Hanging Slide Weight 2 Pound - $25 - (Greenwood, SC)

Got this on a bulk buy of primitive goods, was told it was a cotton scale weight but that's all I have it weighs 2 pounds 1.5 ounces and it measures 9 1/3" long, the ball on the end appears to be steel and the rod also is steel.
