Grueby Pottery matte green double leaf row watermelon vase Arts & Crafts Boston - $4,495 - (Boston, MA)

Here is a good Grueby Pottery barrel or watermelon shape vase with 2 rows of very well tooled high and low leaves. It is covered in a thick curdled lighter green glaze which separates, and thins nicely over the leaf edges, highlighting the decoration. It has a four inch crack at the rim and a corresponding two inch hairline opposite which are not really obvious, and the typical nicks to the leaf edges. There are no repairs or firing flaws. Lightly marked with the earlier Grueby Faience Boston USA die-stamp. It measures 9 1/2 inches tall and 7 7/8 inches in diameter at the widest point. A fine example of the quintessential Arts & Crafts New England art pottery.
