For sale: a huge and heavy, handmade 3-Strand Necklace made with Antique Venetian Lewis & Clark African Tribal Trade Beads & .925 S Clasp. 107 beads counted. Most of the beads are in good to very good or excellent condition and some show signs of light use wear that may include scratches, pitting, scuffing and small chips. A couple have more worn finishes with pitted surfaces and larger chips. The strands are each a different length and will sit one below the other or can be adjusted on the clasp for a twisted look. African Trade beads are decorative beads that were used as currency between the end of the 15th century thru the 20th century in exchange for goods such as palm oil, ivory, spices, gold and slaves. The majority of these beads were created in places like Venice, Bohemia, and Holland. They were valued by Africans as a sign of wealth, social status, currency and adornment.
