It is as new as they come. I have only found one other copy with the full gold gilt cover lettering still present. I rate this book as new. I don't know if any book this old could be considered any newer. It is as close as it could get to being new. This is a premium example and deserves to join a prized collection. The front cover and back are like new. This Red Book is very valuable because it is the First Edition First Printing and it is one of only 9,000 printed. Also the condition of the book is outstanding and very few left. Probably not another one in circulation. At the time of this writing I have two of the best that I have seen for sale.
