Here is a Civil War Era mid 1800's flat topleather covered document box or small trunkwith brass lock and tack details, leather topstrap with the hinged lid opening to a painted paper lined interior with label reading: E.A.G. Roulstone,Successor to Robert Burr,Manufacturer ofBags, Valises, TrunksMilitary & Fire Caps, & c.9 Hanover St. Boston Wear commensurate to age, with losses topaper interior/staining, etc. The interior strap isbroken (holding base to lid) Some damage to leather.The top strap is very secure. It can't be lifted by thestrap though since the box doesn't lock but itdoes close well. There is no key. This box measures:10" Long6.5" Wide4 5/8" High Weight - 2 pounds 4 ozs.
