Vintage Normandy 4 wood clarinet, playing condition (Leblanc, Noblet) - $195 - (Lake Luzerne, NY)

This is an early Serial # 7987, printed on upper and lower joints. (Charts online show the earliest Normandy 4's as starting with 24000 in 1964. I date this to the early '50's.)I have been a sax player and bought this 20 years ago for doubling, and only seriously learned to play it 2 years ago. This is what I learned on, using the Vandoren 2RV mouthpiece included.I now have a collection of 8 clarinets and need to say goodbye to this old friend. I think it is a great, solid clarinet with solid, tight keywork.I don't know the reputation about the wood, but I have hadly ever seen a Leblanc, Noblet, or Normandy with a crack in it.(Some Normandy 4's were sold as "Special" with a plastic bell to save money; this one is wood.) Leblanc had a clever accoutician/designer named Houvenaghel who had his own ideas, especially for saxes. On many Leblanc clarinets like this one the right hand side (trill) keys are in straight alignment, rather than offset, unlike any other clarinet that I know of.Each of the 4 trill keys has its own pivot, unlike many other top brands which have only 3.Some of them, like this one, have straight tops on those keys for a nice look. This is the best case of any of my clarinets, even though the interior is worn. There is a lot of room for sheet music/books, 9.5 x 13.25" in the lid behind the upper padding, with velcro.
